Whether it's getting that difficult course out of the way so that you can take more electives during the next school year or taking one of those electives for which you haven't had the time, the summer program has something for you.
With courses in science, math, history, English, religion, and the creative arts, students will find plenty of opportunities to get ahead, pursue an area of interest, or learn something new. We hope that you will consider spending part of your summer with us.

Compact sessions: Use 2 weeks to complete one course, or complete 2 courses in a month! Students should be prepared to work 2.5 hours each weekday. Daily online access mandatory.

Courses Offered:
Grammar in Practice:
After using online mini-lessons and exercises to review a rule, students will demonstrate mastery by utilizing these skills in six short creative non-fiction essays. Individually adapted for middle or upper school students; work will be revised for mastery!
Writing about Literature:
Students will read grade-level appropriate poems and stories as well as a novel from assigned summer reading. Students will deepen understanding by participating in online blogs and discussions and then follow the full writing process to practice text-to-self and text-to-text analysis.
Writing with Research:
Get a head start (or a re-do!) by practicing one of the most important academic skills you can learn -- research. Students will engage in a full writing process as they choose a topic, research it thoroughly, and investigate multiple sides of the issue. The resulting product will be a fully supported, argumentative essay that avoids plagiarism and employs proper MLA style citations. Topics will be chosen based on interests and grade level.
HISTORY
New Testament Course #3047: Life and Letters
The center point of this course is the life of Jesus of Nazareth, bound on either side by a world he grew from and a world he profoundly shaped. We'll walk the dusty roads and unroll the sacred scrolls by which the early Christians attempted to make sense of this man's life and its impact on their lives. The student will choose a pair of themes that pervade the text as well as her own life and interests, and she will become an expert in those themes and their connection to each other. The final exam is a portfolio of the intellectual life of her semester, highlighted by discoveries, conclusions and questions that remain about her themes. She will present her portfolio to the class at the end of the semester.
This course is a 1/2 credit graduation requirement that is open to grades 10-12.

The Hebrew Text
As we study the history and literature of the ancient Hebrews, we will tie together their connections to the empires and events of that historical period, as well as to the paintings and poems and front page articles and movies of THIS historical period. Using the primary document of the Hebrew Scriptures, we will investigate Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Ruth, Samuel, David, Solomon, Daniel and Esther, discovering how often unlikely people become the most heroic individuals. We will enjoy the text as beautiful literature as well.
Two sections are available for this one-credit required 8th grade course.
