Kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, caving, and mountain biking are just a few of the activities offered. Courses are offered to novice, intermediate and even the experienced enthusiast on weekends, afternoons, fall and spring break, and to both middle school and upper school students.
On occasion, GPS and the McCallie School Outdoor Programs offer co-educational adventures, most recently a kayaking trip to South Carolina. At least once annually, a parent-daughter experience is offered to learn fly-fishing, canoe on the Tennessee River, or volunteer with the Audubon Society for an Open House on Maclellan Island. All activities are carefully planned and supervised by experienced staff.
As part of a middle school outdoor leadership discovery program in 2008-09, the students enjoyed caving and learning about cave ecology.
