5 Reasons Why an All-Girls Fitness Center Matters
Like every aspect of a GPS education, the strength and conditioning program is intentionally designed for girls.
1. Designed Specifically for Girls’ Needs
Located in the lower level of the GPS Mills Complex, the Caldwell Fitness Center prioritizes improving performance, preventing injuries, and accelerating recovery in a way that aligns with how girls train and develop with experienced trainers and coaches who know girls' athletics. From appropriately sized barbells and dumbbells to thoughtfully selected equipment like foam rollers and weight belts, every detail supports female athletes.

2. A Comfortable, Confidence-Building Environment
In a space dedicated solely to them, girls don’t have to share equipment or training areas with male athletes. This creates an environment where they can focus, build confidence, and fully engage in their workouts. The center was also designed to feel welcoming and functional, a place where students can feel comfortable among their peers and coaches.
3. Personalized, Scalable Training for Every Athlete
A key advantage of an all-girls fitness center is the ability to tailor workouts to each individual.
As Head Strength Coach Matt Green explains,
The program is highly adaptable—allowing trainers to push athletes who are ready for more while modifying exercises for those still developing.
Whether using TRX straps or adjusting movement variations, each girl receives training aligned with her goals, abilities, and sport.
4. Proven Injury Prevention and Sport-Specific Support
The results speak for themselves. Since refining the program, injury rates—especially ACL tears and hip injuries—have dropped significantly. Trainers work closely with coaches to design sport-specific programs that address common risks, from shin splints in track athletes to shoulder strain in swimmers. Small class sizes make it possible to monitor each athlete closely and proactively reduce injury risk.
5. Education That Builds Lifelong Strength and Habits
Beyond physical training, girls learn the “why” behind each exercise, empowering them to understand their bodies and train effectively on their own. They develop skills that extend far beyond the gym such as discipline, motivation, and perseverance. Combined with guidance on proper nutrition and recovery, our program equips them with lifelong tools for health, wellness, and performance.
An all-girls fitness center isn’t just about training. It’s about creating a space where girls can thrive physically, mentally, and confidently, both in sports and in life.
