Building Resilient, Confident Young Women: The GPS Strength and Conditioning Program

Confidence doesn't begin on game day. It begins in the moments when a girl realizes she's stronger than she thought.
At Girls Preparatory School, our Strength and Conditioning program is about helping every girl discover what she is capable of—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Whether she is stepping into the weight room for the very first time or training for collegiate athletics, every student is coached in an environment intentionally designed for girls, where growth is measured not only in strength gained, but in confidence built.
In many athletic settings, girls are expected to adapt to programs originally created with boys in mind. At GPS, we've taken a different approach. Every piece of equipment, every workout, and every coaching strategy is designed with female athletes at the center. Our coaches understand how girls learn, how they move, and how to help them develop lifelong habits that support health, performance, and resilience.
The result is an environment where girls feel comfortable asking questions, trying new skills, and pushing themselves beyond what they thought possible.
Our commitment to developing confident athletes begins long before varsity competition. Thanks to our no-cut middle school athletics program, every girl has the opportunity to participate, improve, and discover the joy of movement without the pressure of making a team. Strength and conditioning works hand in hand with our physical education curriculum to teach proper movement patterns, balance, agility, coordination, and injury prevention—building a strong foundation that benefits girls in every sport and every stage of life.
As students progress through upper school, that foundation becomes a competitive advantage. Athletes refine their technique, increase their strength, improve speed and power, and learn how to train with purpose. Just as importantly, they develop discipline, resilience, and confidence that extend well beyond the playing field.
For many girls, the biggest transformation isn't reflected on a scoreboard or in the weight they can lift. It's found in the confidence to try something difficult, the resilience to overcome setbacks, and the belief that they are capable of achieving more than they imagined.
These lessons follow our students into classrooms, leadership opportunities, college, and their careers. They learn to trust themselves, make decisions under pressure, embrace challenges, and support one another along the way.
At GPS, strength isn't measured only by physical performance. It's measured by the young women who leave our campus knowing they can take on whatever comes next.
When girls are supported by coaches who understand their unique strengths and challenges, they don't just become stronger athletes—they become resilient leaders, confident learners, and courageous young women prepared for whatever lies ahead.
