Grace & Bravery: The Power of the GPS Dance Program
At Girls Preparatory School, dance is a place where girls build confidence, discover their creative voices, and learn the courage to take risks alongside one another.
Every middle school student at GPS participates in dance, giving every girl the opportunity to explore movement, creativity, and performance as part of her school experience. Whether she has years of dance experience or is stepping into a studio for the first time, she learns to trust her body, express her ideas, and find her place within an ensemble.
In a supportive, all-girl environment, students grow comfortable trying new things, making creative choices, and sharing their work with others.
That foundation grows with her in the upper school. Students who want to continue dancing can pursue opportunities including Upper School Dance Ensemble, building technical skills while developing their own artistic perspectives. For students ready to take their experience even further, Terpsichord offers an exceptional opportunity for student-led artistry. One of the country's longest-running high school modern dance companies, Terpsichord dancers choreograph original works, mentor their peers, and collaborate to create professional-grade performances.
Across the program, girls learn skills that extend well beyond the studio. Dance asks them to listen and respond, contribute their ideas, support their peers, and step forward with confidence. It gives them a place to practice creative bravery while discovering the power of working toward a shared vision.
Whether she is performing a solo Terpsichord Original or dancing with the ensemble in the middle school musical, every GPS girl learns that through dance, she can step with confidence, lead with grace, and contribute to something greater than herself.
