Girls Preparatory School (GPS) was founded in 1906 to provide girls with the necessary courses to pursue a college education. GPS has proudly graduated almost 6,000 young women since then. Teaching Position Summary
Girls Preparatory School seeks an instructor for the 2026-2027 school year who is excited about teaching chemistry courses at a girls’ school through a learner-centered lens. Our faculty strives to create personalized class environments that are responsive to girls’ academic and individual needs. Being a teacher at GPS means working in an inclusive team setting where shared ideas and constructive feedback are the fabric of our faculty culture. Teaching Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Division Head and the STEM Department Chair(s), the person in this role will:
- Teach classes in chemistry, and potentially other science disciplines depending on qualifications, using a learner-centered approach;
- Design and maintain a classroom environment that supports girls’ academic and personal growth;
- Plan, develop, and execute lessons that reflect our broader curriculum and adapt to the needs of students as they progress;
- Establish effective rapport with students within a supportive and equitable classroom culture;
- Implement a variety of learner-centered pedagogical approaches to instruction and assessment;
- Evaluate and communicate student progress;
- Demonstrate knowledge of best practices in differentiated instruction;
- Collaborate with learning support specialists in order to meet the needs of students with learning differences;
- Serve as an advisor to a group of 10-12 students;
- Contribute to school life by sponsoring a club, offering an after-school activity, coaching, or some other method based on faculty interest;
- Attend and participate in departmental and conference meetings, committing to professional development and the professional life of the faculty; and
- Use outstanding and varied written and verbal communication skills to partner with students, families, and colleagues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field required;
- Master’s and/or doctoral degree in a relevant discipline preferred;
- Two to 5 years of teaching experience in a STEM discipline at the middle/high school levels and/or college level preferred; and

Teaching Position Summary
Girls Preparatory School seeks an instructor to join our visual and performing arts department as a visual arts teacher. The ideal candidate is a skilled and passionate educator, adept at teaching traditional and contemporary techniques and committed to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving. Using learner-centered practices and an interdisciplinary approach, this teacher will support students’ growth in both course objectives and broader competencies in our Profile of a Graduate.
The candidate should demonstrate a strong educational understanding of various artistic media, experience designing and executing an arts curriculum with interdisciplinary connections, and use varied, learner-centered pedagogical methods. Preference will be given to candidates with deep qualifications in 3D art and those who connect traditional visual arts principles with modern technology and tools.
While teaching assignments may shift with school needs and faculty interest, the selected teacher will likely teach primarily upper school courses. Foundational middle school courses are also part of our program and may be assigned. Upper school offerings include foundational art, drawing, printmaking, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and several AP/college portfolio courses.

Essential Functions
- Plan, schedule, assign, and supervise the activities of custodial staff.
- Manage inspection protocols and individual performance evaluations to maximize quality and efficiency of all team members.
- Instructs all employees in the proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance.
- Review team’s time cards and monitor absences, reassigning work as necessary.
- Supervises and performs regular maintenance of equipment; makes repairs within abilities.
- Request and purchase supplies as needed, within budget guidelines.
- Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve, confine or prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions.
- Complete housekeeping duties in specified area(s) and as backup to absent colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is preferred
- At least four years of experience in custodial services. Supervisory experience, including knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment and supplies, is preferred.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Knowledge of O.S.H.A. requirements and the ability to routinely follow those guidelines and requirements.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to use a work order system.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dusts, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, pathogenic substances and toxic/poisonous agents.

Position Summary
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the school. The Housekeeper is responsible for an area and will be expected to clean to the frequency and standard set. Full-time and part-time work available.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms and other work areas so that health standards are met.
- Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers.
- Empty wastebaskets, and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas.
- Carry linens, towels, toilet items, and cleaning supplies, using wheeled carts.
- Sweep, scrub, wax, and/or polish floors, using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
- Dust and polish furniture and equipment.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation products, techniques and method
- Working knowledge of operating cleaning equipment
- Physical stamina and mobility including ability to reach, kneel and bend

Substitute Teacher
Teaching Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Division Head(s), the person in this role will:
Summary
Implements the daily instructional plans of the classroom. Maintains a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students while maintaining proper classroom management. Works effectively with the teachers to minimize any potential transition problems from teacher to substitute and substitute to teacher.
- Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
- Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
- Knows school procedures and regulations.

Coaching Position Summary
Girls Preparatory School seeks a Director of Soccer beginning the 2026-27 school year to provide visionary leadership, strategic oversight, and day-to-day management of the school’s 6th–12th grade soccer program. The Director of Soccer is responsible for building and sustaining a program that reflects the mission and values of GPS while ensuring a competitive and enriching experience for student-athletes. This role will collaborate closely with athletics staff, school leadership, and families to foster a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and community.

Athletics At GPS
The GPS Athletics mission includes teaching girls to be team players, understand the importance of mental toughness, accept challenges enthusiastically, and value strength, fitness, stamina, and good health. Position Summary
The successful candidate will show the ability to provide leadership, organization, and supervision for the GPS Rowing program in a manner that aligns with the mission of the total athletic program at GPS. This individual will be responsible for providing direction, instruction, and supervision to student-athletes so they achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in rowing, aiding the educational and individual growth of team members.

- Assists with plans and set-up for activities, practices, and interscholastic contests. Travels with student athletes on the team bus to and from all competitions.

- Communicates and interacts thoughtfully and courteously with all students, staff, parents, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner. Professionally represents Girls Preparatory School at all times.
Requirements

- Completed or ability to complete the TN Boating Safety Certificate
- A minimum of two (2) years coaching Rowing, preferably female athletes

Position Summary (Assistant Coach)
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to support the leadership, organization, and supervision of the Middle School Volleyball program in alignment with the mission of the total athletic program at GPS. This individual will assist the head coach in providing direction, instruction, and encouragement to student-athletes, helping them develop their skills, discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The assistant coach will contribute to a positive, competitive, and supportive team culture that reflects the values of Girls Preparatory School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists the head coach in instructing and demonstrating skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in volleyball, supporting the educational and personal growth of team members.
- Helps implement and maintain a standard of performance consistent with the institution’s goals of athletic excellence while supporting the school’s expectations for academic and personal discipline.
- Aids in planning and organizing activities, practices, and interscholastic contests. Supports the head coach in developing appropriate training programs and practice schedules. Travels with student-athletes on the team bus to and from all games.
- Promotes discipline, emphasizes good sportsmanship in word and behavior, and models healthy lifestyles. Supports and advocates the school’s belief in the value of multi-sport participation.
- Assists in supervising students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior. Helps maintain a safe environment for all student-athletes at all times.
- Collaborates with the head coach and athletic director in preparing practice and game schedules, managing equipment and supplies, and ensuring all necessary forms and documentation are collected. Communicates facility or equipment needs promptly to the head coach or athletic director.
- Maintains required certifications and training. Follows and remains knowledgeable of all TSSAA and NFHS policies, rules, and procedures, as well as GPS departmental policies outlined in the Coaches’ Handbook.
- Communicates and interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and officials, resolving conflicts professionally. Represents Girls Preparatory School with integrity and respect at all times.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
- A minimum of two (2) years coaching secondary volleyball, preferably female student-athletes.
- Knowledge of NFHS and TSSAA Rules for volleyball.
- Demonstrated commitment to building cultural competencies and empowering students to engage across differences.
