GPS Announces New Field House

Girls Preparatory School announced today the construction of a new athletic field house on its lower campus, with the project set to begin in late summer 2026.

“This milestone represents a significant step forward in our long-term master planning and our Strategic Plan commitment to invest intentionally in our programs, people, and spaces,” says Megan D. Cover, Head of School. “At GPS, we believe in educating and developing the whole girl—in mind, body, and spirit. Athletics, physical education, and wellbeing are essential parts of that journey, and this project reflects our conviction.”

The project is made possible through the ongoing generosity of donors who believe deeply in the power and purpose of a GPS education. “The GPS Field House is the first component of several facilities projects we plan to take on, in addition to accomplishing our vision to invest more deeply in our students, faculty, and programs,” Cover says.

The field house will be constructed from a renovation and expansion of the current GPS Tennis Center. The fully enclosed GPS Field House will provide many new features for students and families:

  • an open and bright student lounge that overlooks the lower field and track;

  • a multipurpose meeting space for presentations and team game film review;

  • four temperature-controlled tennis courts for year-round use;

  • dedicated locker rooms and team rooms for field sport athletes (cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and track & field);

  • a Performance and Recovery Center that focuses on personalized care, rehabilitation, and injury prevention; and

  • a state-of-the-art Strength and Cardio Room designed specifically for female athletes.

This space will also host a concession stand and outdoor spaces for spectators to include an expanded green space for tailgating and activities. “The GPS Field House will serve not only the school’s competitive athletes but every girl who participates in physical education, athletic, and wellness programs throughout her GPS experience,” Cover explains.

The school will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking on May 15 with an anticipated opening of the new facility in spring 2027.

“As we celebrate our 120th year, this is more than a building project,” Cover says. “It is a visible commitment to who we are and who we are becoming—a school that honors our tradition while boldly investing in the future of every girl who walks on our campus.”
