GPS Singers Perform on the International Stage in London

This summer, 12 Girls Preparatory School singers traveled to London for an unforgettable musical experience, joining three McCallie School vocalists for the internationally acclaimed "When Stars Align..." concert at the renowned Barbican Hall.

The invitation marked a fitting finale to an outstanding year for the GPS music program. Earlier this spring, 38 students from GPS and McCallie performed at Carnegie Hall, while the school year also featured memorable Candlelight and Whirlwind performances, numerous student accolades, and exceptional musical achievements across both campuses.

In London, the students performed alongside choirs from Poland, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, California, and Michigan as part of a large international ensemble led by acclaimed composer and conductor Dan Forrest. Together, they presented Forrest's Let Me Listen, a powerful work the GPS Singers had been preparing for nearly a year under the direction of Choral Director Emily Tousek.

The experience challenged students to grow not only as performers but also as musicians.

"Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and the girls learned so much," Emily said. "They did a great job adapting to the English choral style, which is more forward in tone and uses less vibrato than the sound I typically coach in my classroom."

Beyond rehearsals and performances, students had the opportunity to experience London's rich history and culture, with visits to landmarks including Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, and the famous Abbey Road.

For many students, the trip was their first visit to Europe—and an opportunity to connect with young musicians from around the world through a shared love of music.

"I was so excited for them to have this opportunity," Emily said. "Music is the universal language." Performing on one of the world's premier stages alongside internationally recognized choirs was a memorable conclusion to a remarkable year of musical excellence for GPS students and a testament to the opportunities that dedication, collaboration, and the arts can provide.
