Supporting the Whole Girl

Providing nurturing and encouraging environments in which each student can learn and be supported in handling her learning and developmental challenges, the Support Services staff at GPS includes both counselors and learning specialists. While guidance counselors address social and emotional needs, learning specialists provide guidance, enrichment activities, and tools to help students develop study, time management, and organizational skills.
Following a model used by peer institutions that re-imagines developmentally appropriate support for middle and upper school girls, the Support Services staff meets first with parents to form a partnership in supporting their daughters. When appropriate, the next step is to partner with others on campus with whom the student interacts. Together—parents, teachers, and coaches—develop a plan to address the whole girl with strategies for student success.
