Admission
Assessment
For the 2026–27 admission cycle, GPS will require a common admission assessment for middle school applicants in place of the SSAT. Developed in partnership with Baylor and McCallie, the 90-minute paper-based assessment includes Mathematics, Reading, and Writing sections.
The assessment serves as one part of our holistic review process, helping the admission committee better understand each applicant alongside school records, teacher recommendations, test scores, interests, and campus visits. Families may choose the testing date and location that best fits their schedule, and results can be shared with all participating schools.
For questions about the assessment, please contact the Admission Office.
Frequently Asked Questions
DOES THE ADMISSION ASSESSMENT COST ANYTHING?
No, the assessment is free of charge.
HOW CAN I SIGN UP FOR THE ASSESSMENT?
You can register your child by clicking HERE. When registering, you will have the option to indicate if you would like your daughter’s scores sent to another school. If you need assistance with registration, please contact our Admission Office at (423) 634-7644. Registration for the assessment will close 48 hours before the test date.
HOW LONG IS THE ASSESSMENT?
Overall, the Admission Assessment will take 90 – 100 minutes. Each of the three sections are roughly 30 minutes, and we’ll incorporate some brief breaks between each section. With the assessment beginning at 9:00 a.m., we expect pick-up to take place around 11 a.m.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD BRING TO THE ASSESSMENT?
Prospective students won’t need to bring anything to the assessment. We’ll provide pencils and paper for everyone. We recommend having your child eat breakfast that morning and, if they’d like, bring a water bottle to drink during breaks.
MY CHILD RECEIVES EXTRA-TIME. ARE THEY ABLE TO RECEIVE THE SAME ACCOMMODATIONS FOR THE ASSESSMENT?
Yes, we are able to provide most accommodations that are currently being offered to your child. Please contact the Admission Office (admission@gps.edu) with more information on registering your child to receive accommodations for the Admission Assessment.
WHAT TYPES OF SUBJECT MATTER DOES THE ASSESSMENT ASSESS?
The assessment consists of grade-appropriate Math, Reading, and Writing questions based on national standards and previous standardized testing prompts.
I HAVE A COMMITMENT ON THE DATE OF THE ASSESSMENT THAT I CAN'T RESCHEDULE... WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Please contact our office to see about other options for your child to complete the assessment.
