Senior Lea Mulligan and science teacher Angela Langevin had great showings at the second leg of the Triple Crown Bouldering series.
A senior member of the GPS Climbing team, Lea Mulligan placed second in her category this past weekend in the second leg of the Triple Crown Bouldering series.
The outdoor climbing competition, which has been in operation for about 15 years, takes place at Hound Ears in Boone, NC; Stone Fort in Chattanooga, and Horse Pens 40 in Alabama. Lea’s second place accomplishment came against more than 100 female competitors in the Advanced Women category. This was also Lea’s first outdoor competition, which makes her finish all the more impressive.
“I attempted to get 10 climbs of the hardest level I could attain,” says Lea. “Then I calculated my score from the point value of these problems.” Angela Langevin, GPS science teacher and sponsor of the GPS Outdoor Program, competed in the Cumberland Women and placed second in that endurance category. Part of her task was to run and then collect stars from 3-star boulder problems.
In a bit of an understatement, Lea concludes, “Triple Crown is a really fun competition. We both had a really good day Saturday.”
