XC Takes Second at State

The Bruiser cross country team was on the podium to accept a second-place trophy at the state championships.
Big congratulations to the varsity cross country team that finished second at the State Cross Country championship Saturday, Nov. 5, at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. Junior Carley Braman took third place overall in the Division II race with a time of 19 minutes, 30 seconds.

Three Bruiser harriers were in the top 15 and earned All-State honors. In addition to Braman, senior Kate McVay finished sixth overall with a time of 20:16, and eighth grader Jane Eiselstein was 15th with a time of 21:04.53.

“The race was very exciting and it was gratifying to have everyone on the team have a peak performance in the championship,” said Coach Jeff Gaither. “The girls executed our race plan almost flawlessly, and after placing third the last two years, it was rewarding to accomplish our goal of a podium finish.”

Noting the special character of the girls on the team, he said they “dedicated themselves to a very high standard at the beginning of the summer. Best of all, they genuinely cared for one another throughout the season.”
Serious on the podium, but showing their joy afterward!
