At February’s official signing day, soccer player Sara Corum became the first GPS senior to sign papers to play at the college level. At a celebration with family, friends, faculty, and coaches, Sara signed with Lee University and enjoyed a retrospective of her GPS career by Coach Patrick Winecoff.

A two-time all-state selection by the Tennessee High School Soccer Coaches Association and Tennessee Sports Writers Assoc., Corum had a 32-9-6 three-year record as a starter. “Of her total games, one half ended up as shutouts,” said Winecoff. She was part of GPS’s first ever state championship in 2014 and the overtime loss in the 2015 semifinals. GPS was third in the region in 2016, losing in the quarterfinals after a 9-3-2 season.

Co-captain and outside left back for the Bruisers, Corum also runs track for GPS. Lee University Coach Chris Hennessey describes his signee as “a tireless worker who can get up and down the field” and “very dynamic.”
