Student Leaders Elected for 2017-18

A campus-wide election has voted for three new council leaders for 2017-18.
Speeches to the student body, clever electioneering signs around campus, and online voting have resulted in new presidents-elect for three important councils for the 2017-18 school year.

Libby Welborn will lead the Honor Council, a tradition inaugurated in 1945 at the request of the student body to promote the school’s honor system, encourage trust among students, and instill in them the principles of integrity, honesty, and consideration for others. Welborn has served as a class representative on the Honor Council once before.

Blythe May was elected the president of the Student Council. The first GPS council was organized in 1949 to promote the school’s ideals, increase school spirit, and foster student activities. Today’s Student Council representatives work within GPS for those purposes but also coordinate several events with McCallie School’s council, including Mission Remission, a fundraiser for cancer research. Blythe has been a class representative in three prior years.

In 2014-15, community service and outreach were reorganized into Partnerships in the Community (PIC), which prepares students to be engaged members and leaders as they share a commitment to area agencies and non-profits. Meg Marshall, who has previously been a class representative and service leader, will be the PIC president next year.

Congratulations to these three young women who will continue traditions of honor, representative government, and a changing face of service to the Chattanooga community.

By virtue of the elections and tradition, they will also be the first three to deliver their chapel talks during the first two weeks of school.
