Bruisers Win CCS Fast Break Invitational and Red Bank Meet

GPS's Varsity Track & Field team takes the victories in their first week of competitions.
The GPS Varsity Track & Field team competed in their first meet of the season on Saturday, April 1, in the CCS Fast Break Invitational and came away as the winners of the event.
 
Murfee Jones posted a 9’6” mark in the pole vault to win the event, and Kate McVay was also an individual winner finishing first in the 3200. The 4x800 relay team of Mary Margaret Arrowsmith, McVay, Tori Tomokane-Verville and Rebecca Torrence recorded the Bruisers’ third first-place finish of the day.
 
With Jones capturing runner up in the 300 hurdles, and the 4x400 team of Carley Braman, Kylie Eiselstein, Jones, and Scottie Sandlin also finishing second, other high finishes by the Bruisers ensured a GPS victory with 95 points, topping all 16 school teams.

The Red Bank meet on Tuesday, April 4, also showcased the Bruisers’ talent on the track, as GPS captured their second meet win in a field of 12 school teams. With 172 total points, 83 ahead of the second-place team, the team’s first-place finishers in the events included:

Discus - Chloe Haren
Pole Vault - M. Jones
4 x 800 Relay- Myra Brock, Tomokane-Verville, Torrence and Arrowsmith
1600 - Braman
300 Hurdles - M. Jones
3200 -  Braman

The Middle School Track & Field Bruisers won their first track meet of the season on Tuesday at the McCallie Meet, with several first-place finishes, including Camilla Mook (discus), Hayden Wise (long jump), Reagan Ziegler (100 hurdles) and the 4x100 relay team of Ashley Grant, Alie Williams, Laura Peele, and Jamiah Flanagan. Runner-up places went to Maddie Flynn (shot put), Ziegler (long jump), and Ellie Taliaferro (200).
