Bruisers Back in Softball Final Four

A combined 31 runs in six innings in a best-of-three series with Harpeth Hall assured the GPS softball team of a return trip to the Spring Fling state tournament.
Pitchers Shelby Walters and Hannah Kincer needed only three innings each to power the Bruisers back into the state softball tournament final four at Spring Fling. GPS will face Briarcrest on Tuesday, May 23, at 5:30 p.m. at the Starplex #3 Softball Park in Murfreesboro.
In the first game of the best-of-three home series against Harpeth Hall, Walters threw a perfect three innings and recorded seven strikeouts in the 15-0 win. Freshman Elizabeth Warwick had a great three innings, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, scoring three runs and driving in four more. Junior Haley Smith was 2-for-2, scoring twice and driving in two.
In the second game, both pitchers hit home runs; Kincer’s was a grand slam at the bottom of the first, and Walters’ was a three-run homer in the second inning. The 16-0 win featured another freshman, Ariana Whatley, who hit a three-run homer in the third.
“We all came out ready to play like we’re capable of playing,” said Kincer after the second game. “We’re a really close team, and we’re ready to make the trip back to Murfreesboro.” (5/22)
