GPS Tennis Coach Sue Bartlett Sweeps British Open Tournament

Sue Bartlett, GPS Director of Tennis and Head Varsity Coach, proved to be a perfect 6-0 this weekend at The British Open Seniors Indoor Tennis Championships in Birmingham, England.

After strong play-in matches earlier in the week, the singles competition culminated Sunday with Bartlett in the finals, following her semifinal defeat of Jenny Chin, current British Tennis Senior Ranking number one for her age group. The championship match showcased Bartlett against Jane Rushby, who is rated 47 in the world in the seniors 60+ division. Bartlett posted a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win to earn the victory in the Open, an ITF Grade 1 event. In 2009, Bartlett won the tournament’s 50+ Singles Championship, and in 2012 she was the US Nationals 50+ Singles Champion.

On Saturday, Bartlett and doubles partner Tish Peal captured the 60+ Doubles Championship, 6-4, 6-2. “It was so exciting to play in the new age group and finish the tournament strong,” Bartlett says. “It was great to face new competition and play doubles with a new partner. My hope is these wins will put me in contention for a spot on the Great Britain Team at the International Tennis Federation World Championships in Germany, this August.”  Coach Bartlett, a Chattanooga resident who was born in Hillingdon, Middlesex, England, has been selected to represent the British national tennis team for eight years. We are so proud of her accomplishments.
