Maddox Bandy Signs to Play Tennis at Division I School

Bandy to play at Lipscomb University in Nashville
Maddox Bandy has proven herself as a formidable tennis player at GPS and beyond. But it’s not just her level of play that gets noticed. She recently received the sportsmanship award at the Tennessee Qualifier and the Southern Tournament and is the recipient of the 2017 USTA Tennessee Sportsmanship Award.

“Maddox has worked consistently hard at her tennis since her sixth-grade year,” says GPS Varsity Tennis Coach Sue Bartlett. “I have been really proud to see her mature and blossom into the delightful senior she has become. She is a great competitor, and Lipscomb will be lucky to have her. I see her only improving and becoming a huge asset to their team as she has been ours.”

Bandy has amassed numerous championship titles including, TSSAA State Doubles Champion (2015 and 2016), 2017 TSSAA Region Champion, and Times Free Press Best of the Preps (4 years).

“We are so proud of Maddox and all of her achievements here at GPS,” says Athletic Director Jay Watts. “Not only has she been a standout athlete in our tennis program, but she is also represents our school with the highest standards of personal integrity and character off the court.”

So far this year, Bandy has 10 wins under her belt, including winning the No. 1 singles championship at the Chattanooga Rotary Tournament last weekend. Outside GPS she has won the USTA National Mother/Daughter Tournament in 2014 and 2017 with her mom, Meg Glass Bandy ’87, and reached the semifinals of doubles at the USTA Southerns Tournament.
