GPS and McCallie Upper School Students Present Antigone

Performances are October 31, November 1, and November 2.
Girls Preparatory School and McCallie School present the 2019 GPS/McCallie Upper School Fall Play, Antigone.

Upper School students from GPS and McCallie School and director Mr. Mark Krawczyk, GPS theater teacher, present Antigone, a modern adaptation by Lewis Galantiere from the play by French dramatist Jean Anouilh, written in 1940's France as a form of resistance against Nazi occupation. In an act of treason punishable by death, Antigone (played by Annie Thrash) acts on her moral duty to bury her brother, defying the will of the ruthless King Creon (played by Silas Connell). What transpires is a timeless exploration of when to accept authority in order to maintain the status quo and when to confront it, no matter the consequences.

"The actors are doing great work," Krawczyk says. "The play features a self-choreographed dance number at the top, a student who has been coordinating some of our lifts and physical work, film and video work put together by the video club, some set design by one of our very accomplished seniors, and so much more. It’s a truly collaborative project."

Three showings are available with tickets priced at $8. Tickets can be purchased at GPSAntigone.eventbrite.com.
