Mock Trial Teams to Compete at Finals

By Maggie Parsley '21
Bruisers occupy two out of four district qualifying spots
In an unprecedented and momentous victory for the Bruisers, not one but two Upper School Mock Trial teams qualified for the district-level competition following a stellar performance this season. District finals are scheduled to take place on Monday, March 9, at the federal courthouse downtown.

The competition will consist of two separate trials, where GPS will face Family Christian Academy and Signal Mountain High School. The winner of each match then advances to state.

After months of hard work and daily practices, the girls have already garnered impressive results. One of these outstanding teams—comprised of Lindsey Campbell ’20, Isabel Hester ’20, Annie Thrash ’21, Katie Day ’21, Reese Miller ’21, and Julia Combs ’22—ranks 17th nationwide and is currently undefeated. The second team (Shanzeh Rizvi ’20, Isis Cantrell ’21, Abby Katelyn Pettus ’22, Katherine Bell ’20, Madison Proctor ’22, and Anya Parambath ’23) has lost only one match.

“I’m so proud of how well the girls have done,” says Mock Trial sponsor and history teacher Dr. Steve Harrison. “They've put in so much time and energy, and they’re building important skills in the process.”

Judge Brian House and attorney Tammy Combs, the GPS Mock Trial Coaches, have both worked tirelessly to put the girls on the path to success, helping them to bring home nine Best Attorney and eight Best Witness Awards. Eleven of these, in total, belong to the two teams who will head to finals.

Congratulations, girls, and best of luck next week!
