Bruisers Earn Awards on National Latin Exam

Eighth-graders through seniors post impressive results
Just before school let out, indeed, in the case for most of the Upper School girls, on the very day that we were dismissed from the GPS campus for distance learning, Drs. Caulfield's and Covino's Latin students (grades 8 through 12) took the National Latin Exam. The girls took exams ranging from the Introduction to Latin level all the way through the Level IV Poetry exam, the widest range of exams our school has deployed in some time.

Yesterday during Chapel, Dr. Covino shared their results:

Introduction to Latin

Certificate of Achievement with Ribbon | McKamey Bratcher
Certificate of Achievement | Caitlin Polk, Summer Cobb, Katie Hubbard, and Mary Mueller

Girls enrolled in Latin II, III, and Beyond

Cum Laude Certificate | Santana Etchison, Catherine Lynch, Maren von Boehmer, and Allie Walley
Magna Cum Laude Certificate | Astra Burke and Gracie Compton
Silver Medal | Madeline Davidson, Caroline Farris, Morgan Hubbard, Evelyn Lytle, Emmy Richey, Kayla Rivers, Liza Rogers, Anna von Kessler, and J.C. Wiedmer
Gold Medal | Abigail Mann, Harlan Porfiri, Ellie Taliaferro, and Reagan Ziegler

Attendees of virtual Chapel found a way to shower the award winners with love and affection, trading the customary single clap for each girl for a veritable stream of messages of congratulations from teachers and students alike.

"I sincerely hope that seeing so very many of our girls honored and recognized brought some much needed joy to our community today; I know when I got the scores back over spring break it personally did me a world of good," says Dr. Covino. "I am profoundly pleased at their achievement and grateful for the efforts that the National Latin Exam team made to get us the results back to share even amidst all the present difficulties. This year fully half of Latin students enrolled in the Middle School and 4 out of 5 in the Upper School, including all of those who progressed with their studies beyond Latin III, were recognized; I am looking forward to the girls trying to beat that record next year!"
