GPS & COVID-19 | The Plan to Reopen School

Dr. Kirk Walker presents the latest communication for fall.
The start of the 2020-21 school year is like no other in recent history. On Wednesday, August 19, we will welcome 535 girls to our campus for a year that, although different, we intend to make joyful and academically successful for each student.

We have been planning for this day since March, with the goal to make our campus as safe as possible through physical distancing and safety protocols while still protecting the benefits of our all-girls learning environment.

We are also aware that our plan must remain flexible in order to quickly adjust to changes in the pandemic while not shortchanging the learning and growth our students need to accomplish this year. The GPS COVID-19 Plan for the Reopening of School incorporates a flexible student engagement model while following guidelines set by the CDC’s COVID-19 Guidance for Schools, the TN Department of Health, and the TN Department of Education. We will continue to consult with these organizations and be ready to implement a transition to Hybrid or Distance Engagement as needed.

This document will also provide the policies we must all follow in order to keep our students and families as safe as possible. Please contact your Division Office if you have any questions or concerns.

We look forward to an exciting and engaging 2020-21 school year.

Sincerely,

R. Kirk Walker Jr., Ph.D.
