Lane Lawrence '19 Receives Top Student-Athlete Award at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Congratulations to Lane Lawrence '19, a senior soccer player at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, who received the Ruel Fox Burns Blanket during the 2023 Athletic Honors and Awards Presentation this week. 

According to the university, "The Ruel Fox Burns Blanket, presented to the department's top senior male and female athletes as voted by the coaching staff, has been presented to outstanding Engineer student-athletes since 1968. The award winners are judged as making the most impact on the athletic program over the past four years."

The news story continued, "Lawrence earned a pair of United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections, including 2nd-team honors in 2021. The 3-time 1st-team all-HCAC honoree was also a 4-time all-conference selection. Lawrence caps a career that included 24 goals, 23 assists, and 71 points. The 4-year starter ranks No. 5 in school history in assists (23), goals (24), and points (71) for teams that won the HCAC and reached NCAA Tournaments in 2019 and 2022."

While at GPS, Lane served as captain of the soccer team, where she
was a key leader on the 2018 TSSAA Division II-AA State Championship Soccer team this year at GPS and was selected as Tennessee All-State, Best of Preps, and All-Region for her last three years of high school competition. She was the GPS Offensive MVP in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and Rookie of the Year her freshman season. While playing for Chattanooga FC, she was on the Tennessee D1 State Championship team in 2018—the first girls team from Chattanooga to win a Division I Championship in 18 years. Lane was also been a part of the Georgia and Tennessee Olympic Development Programs.

Lane was a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. She was also involved with FCA, SWENext, and Amnesty International and founded the GPS Cinema Critique Club. She was also recognized as a Commended National Merit Scholar.
