Math; 33 years
From slide rules and mimeo machines to iPads in every classroom—Betty Jo Horton’s 33-year GPS mathematics career has involved all levels, from sixth grade through honors pre-calculus. She was part of a new generation of collaborative faculty colleagues who applied a team
approach at every grade level, and she adapted her teaching style to the classroom as a hub of technology. Betty Jo received the Mary Hannah Tucker Award for Outstanding Teacher of Mathematics in 1988, the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2003, and the Dorcas Hutcheson McDonald Master Teacher Award in 2005.
