Ward to Dixie State

Senior swimmer Anna Ward has inked scholarship papers to continue her athletic career at Dixie State in St. George, Utah.
The team captain of the GPS Bruisers’ swim team will be swimming for Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, next fall. At a scholarship-signing ceremony at the end of April, All-American Anna Ward committed to the NCAA Division II university.

As a part of only the Utah school’s second swimming season, Ward will bring her versatility to the program, said GPS Coach John Woods. “She can sprint, swim distance, and competes well in all the strokes.”

The last of three sisters to swim for the Bruisers, Ward is a two-time All-State, three-time All-American, and helped set school relay records in both the 200 and 400. “She will help Dixie State immediately because she fits right in with the best swimmers they have and have signed for the incoming freshman class,” Woods said.

Recipient of the Most Dedicated Swimmer Award for the past three years, Ward won the team’s Leadership Award at this year’s end-of-season banquet. “She has contributed to our team from the first day she stepped on the pool deck,” said her coach.

“I like the fact that Dixie State is near a lot of national parks,” said Ward at a signing ceremony with friends, coaches, family, and teammates, “so I didn’t really look elsewhere.”
