Peggy Michaels

Physical Education; 26 years
For 26 years Peggy Michaels prepared girls for a lifetime of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. As the epitome of strength, she shared her passion for physical education despite her battle with Multiple Sclerosis. In 1990 she started the school’s SHAPE program—Starting Habits to Attain Physical Excellence—recognized as one of the top high school physical education programs in the Southeast. Named the 1993-94 State Physical Educator of the Year, she also shaped a Changes and Choices class for eighth grade, enlisting seniors as teaching assistants. She received the Betty Probasco Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013 and was the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame’s first recipient of the Champion Within Award for Courage.
