The Tennessee Indoor Championships is a 2000 meter ergometer race held at UTC. GPS had the opportunity to compete against several teams including Baylor, Chattanooga Juniors, Nashville Rowing, Huntsville Rowing and East Tennessee Rowing to name a few. Our rowers have worked hard all winter cross training and erging and this weekend was their chance to see where they stacked up with the rest of the rowers in the surrounding areas.
Lili Anne McClanahan and Samantha Pickett started the day off strong finishing 4th and 9th overall in the 17-18 year old youth women’s division. Lili Anne set a new personal best of 7:44.20.
Larkin Brown dominated the 15-16 year old division, bringing home the gold and a new personal best of 7:42.9.
Ashlen Carroll kept the winning streak going when she won the 12-14 year old division and also set a new personal best of 7:47.6. Also finishing in the top ten of that group was Isabelle Torrence who put up a great fight to finish with a strong 8:26.0.
Our mighty lightweights had a great showing in the 135 pounds or less division. Mary Louise Whitfield finished with a solid 8:13.1 giving her a fifth place finish. Also finishing in the top ten was Rebecca Guhde, in 8th place, with an 8:16.1.
All the girls showed up ready to race and most hit or beat their goals. This weekend proved to be a positive stepping stone towards the team’s ultimate goal of a successful performance at Nationals in May.
