The GPS Rowing team competed in the annual Head of the Hooch this weekend, the second largest regatta in the country, held right here at home in Chattanooga on the Tennessee River. The regatta attracted some of the best crews in the country, both scholastic and club teams, including some international competitors. The girls of GPS put up a great fight on the water against some of the national champion crews from last year, and some events with more than 80 entries. The GPS crew finished with results that were improved from last year's Hooch. The conditions on Saturday were a bit dreary, but made for great racing, and on Sunday the wind picked up making the water rough affecting everyone's racing. Head Coach David Hall said that he "was pleased with everyone's composure in the racing environment, against some very fast teams." He also mentioned, as he looks forward to the coming seasons with this team, "The focus, determination, and work ethic of these girls is unlike any that I have coached in the past and they are bound to continue improving in the near and distant future." The Head of the Hooch completes the fall season for the GPS team, and they will now turn their focus to their winter training where significant individual improvement hopes to be made to build a stronger team for the spring racing season.
