Golf Wins City Prep

Second and third-place finishes helped the Bruiser golfers win the City Prep Tournament.
GPS golfers won the City Prep tournament at The Bear Trace course at Harrison Bay on Wednesday, Sept. 7, showing why Bruiser golfers are among the top high school players on the scene in Chattanooga.

Junior McKenzie Frizzell was second overall, shooting a blistering 39 on the front nine and a 41 on the back. Junior Hannah Prescott shot 82 and took third after a scorecard playoff. Senior Scottie Sandlin rounded out the team play.

“The girls played well,” said Coach Rob Riddle. “They have been working really hard and were very prepared for this event. It is always rewarding to see their hard work payoff. I am proud of them, but we still have room for improvement. We will take the day off tomorrow and catch up with their academics. Thenwse will go back to work on Friday and Saturday.”

Earlier in the season, Frizzell had a career low 78 in a one stroke loss to Ensworth, and Sandlin tallied an 88. The Bruisers will play three more matches before the region tournament on Sept. 19. The TSSAA State Tournament starts Monday, Sept. 26.
