Three are Soccer All-State

Two seniors, co-captains of the 2016 soccer team, and a sophomore were recently named to the THSSCA All-State team.
Three GPS soccer players have been named to the Tennessee High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State team.

Honored for their season play are seniors and co-captains Sara Corum and Emily Large; and sophomore Lane Lawrence. They were also named to the All-Region team.

Sara Corum, who will sign with Lee University, played outside left back for the Bruisers. The team gave up only 11 goals for the year, and according to Head Coach Patrick Winecoff, Sara was a big reason why. “She has a great impact in every game getting forward and up the field,” he says. “As much as she goes forward, she does a great job getting back and defending.” She had six assists and one goal this year.

Center forward Emily Large tallied nine goals and six assists during the season which extended to the state semifinals. “Our offense flowed through her quite a bit, and she did well with that responsibility,” says Winecoff. “Because of her play, we were able to increase our season goal total by 10, even with three fewer games than in recent years.” Emily was a three-year starter and was named Offensive Co-MVP for the season.

Only a sophomore, Lane Lawrence had nine goals and 10 assists for the season. “Lane is a very dangerous player and regularly gets behind the defensive line,” says Winecoff. “She has a tremendous combination of speed and skill.” Lawrence was the Offensive Co-MVP for the season.
