A Mosaic of Dance

GPS's contemporary dance company Terpsichord presented a stunning Spring Concert in early March.
Terpsichord, GPS’s contemporary dance company, presented the spring concert, “Mosaic,” on Friday and Saturday, March 3-4. Terpsichord, which began at GPS in 1954 under the direction of Peggy Evans Thomas, holds the distinction of being the first high school dance company in the state of Tennessee. Cathie Ault Kasch, a former member of Terpsichord, directs the dance company.

The theme of a mosaic was explored through choreography set to the music of Beyonce, Nebulo, Twenty One Pilots, George Winston, Benny Goodman, and others. A varied choreography was primarily student-created, but two guest artists contributed their talents to the night of dance: Jillian Harris, an award-winning film producer, performer, and Associate Professor of Dance at Temple University; and Brittany Johnson-Mills, the programs Administrator and instructor for Ballet Tennessee. The concert also featured a work by Associate Director of Terpsichord, Laurel Moore Zahrobsky ’90.

The spring event was the last performance for seniors Lily Everett and Phoebe Warren, president and vice president, respectively, of Terpsichord; and classmates Bailey Bryant, Julie Kim, Amelia Land, and Lauren Wright.

Other members of the company are juniors Darby Breedlove, Annsleigh Jones, Alex Lambert, Ashley-Rose Lynn, Amanda Michaud, Tatiana Poggi, Reagan Sanborn, Reagan Smith, and Katherine Stamey; and sophomores Kalli Agudo, Gracyn Davis, Maddie Humble, Maya Pastusic, Carson Thatcher, and Vanessa Yates.
