Martino Signs with Cleveland State

Volleyball defensive specialist Courtlyn Martino will continue her athletic career at the college level.
Wanting to continue her volleyball career as defensive specialist/libero position, senior Courtlyn Martino signed on Friday, Mar. 10, to play on Cleveland State’s first volleyball team coached by Randy Evans. Courtlyn’s extended family, club coaches, and teammates were welcomed to GPS by Interim Athletic Director Jeff Gaither.

At a ceremony in the gym near the volleyball net that has been a special part of her varsity career at GPS, Courtlyn was celebrated by GPS Coach Alfie Dodd. “Courtlyn’s devotion to the sport of volleyball has spanned her seven years here. She contributed at the varsity level even as a freshman and started as DS and libero the rest of her high school career.”

Team captain in her senior year, Courtly “capped off her senior season with All-Region honors and earned team Defensive Player of the Year,” said Dodd. “Not only are we going to miss Courtlyn’s fierce competitiveness, leadership, and talent, but we are also going to miss her many family members who supported us at every game.”

According to the coach, Courtlyn finished her careers with 1100 digs, 170 aces, and 30 kills, a stat that is hard to accomplish playing her position. A member of the Key Club, Courtlyn serves as a GPS Ambassador for the Admission Office.
