GPS Virtual Winter Activities 2020
December 18, 21, & 28, 2020
For girls and boys in grades PreK-12

As we quickly approach the holidays in an unusual year, we are thrilled to be able to support our families with engaging (and complimentary!) virtual winter activities. We will be offering various fun and interactive activities via Zoom for our full community—current and prospective students as well as friends of GPS—taught by GPS faculty and staff. It’s time to get into the festive spirit!

Please see below for information on the classes offered as well as registration details. Approximately one week prior to your chosen class(es), you will receive a Zoom link and (if applicable) supply list. While participation in these events is free of charge, some activities may have a small fee associated with supplies.

  • "Cooking with Mrs. Katie Outlaw: Holiday Edition"

    December 28 | 3 p.m.
Grades: 4-12 (PreK-3 with Parental Assistance)

She’s back by popular demand! Join us for a holiday edition of Cooking with Mrs. Outlaw! This time around, she’ll show you how to make the most beautiful (and delicious!) chocolate dipped candy canes and chocolate pretzel hugs. Though these make great gifting options, we won’t judge if you choose to keep them all for yourself!
    *Allergy warning: Chocolate and Nuts
  • "Exploring the Holidays" with Mrs. Sarah Clardy

    Friday, December 18 | 1 p.m.
    Grades: K-5

Join us as we explore the traditions and cultural significance behind each of the holidays celebrated during this special time of year—Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. Learn about the games, food, and music that define these occasions, and enjoy an activity for each holiday; make a dreidel for Hanukkah, color a nativity scene for Christmas, and create a kinara for Kwanzaa.
  • "Gingerbread House Decorating" with Mrs. Pamela Hammonds

    Friday, December 18 | 7-8:30 p.m.
Grades: 4-12 (PreK-3 with Parental Assistance)

During this fun and festive event, let your creativity run wild! You’re in charge as you decorate your own gingerbread house with assorted candies and icing galore. Mrs. Hammonds will even show you how to make some extra special additions like ice cream cone trees, pretzel fences, marshmallow snowmen, and more! And the best part—everything is edible, so clean up is fun and easy!
  • "Holiday Glass Etching" with Ms. Meg Brock

    December 18 | 3-4 p.m.
    Grades: 5-12

Unleash your inner artist as you create beautifully etched designs on your glassware of choice! (We think candle votives, glasses, mirrors, and vases are all great options, but any smooth glass surface can be etched.) This activity is a great way to add some personalization to a gift or keepsake.
  • "Your Dog Loves Cookies, Too!" with Ms. Kim Myers

    Monday, December 21 | 7-8pm
Grades: 4-12 (PreK-3 with Parental Assistance)

We can't forget about our sweet pups this holiday season, and we hear Fido’s been an extra good boy this year! Join us as we prepare homemade dog cookies from scratch, using our favorite cookie cutters to shape them into bones, hearts, trees—the choice is yours. And since these treats are perfect for gifting, Ms. Meyers will show you how to tie them up in bundles to go!
