Rowers Place Third at National Regatta

Members of the GPS rowing team attended the Scholastic Rowing Association of America Regatta and brought home a bronze medal..
The Bruiser rowing team earned a medal at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America Nationals on May 27, becoming the first GPS rowers to win at a national regatta since 1999.
 
Competing on the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey, on May 26-27, the junior 4+ team of rowers Larkin Brown, Allison Smith, Rebecca Guhde, and Mary Louise Whitfield; along with coxswain Anna Oglesby, placed first in their preliminaries and semifinals and finished third in the finals, receiving a bronze medal for their time of 5:41.7.

On their way to the medal, the team won a preliminary heat and beat the Stotesbury Regatta bronze medal winners! Rising senior Molly Ballenger was an alternate for the junior 4+.
 
The lightweight 4+ team of Corley Compton, Elizabeth Brown, Olivia Evans, and Chandler Mull; along with coxswain Lizzy Walley, had a tough prelim and just missed making their semifinals. Mary Kenley Tugman was alternate for the lightweight team.

The SRAA Nationals had over 179 teams compete in 32 different categories. Teams came from as far away as California, Arizona, Florida, New York, and Canada. All of the competitors had to advance from regional qualifiers. The senior four field had 32 entries, the girls and boys junior fours competed against 23 other teams.
