GPS Names Varsity Head Diving Coach

McCallie teacher/coach to lead the Bruisers' diving team.
McCallie football and track and field coach Dr. Leo Procise will become the varsity head diving coach at GPS in 2018-19. Dr. Procise, who also teaches AP biology at McCallie, previously coached diving at several high schools in Indiana and was the assistant coach at Indiana International School of Diving. While at IISD, Procise taught diving skills to athletes of all ages and skill ranges—from beginners to NCAA Division I college athletes.

In his most recent role as varsity head diving coach at Floyd Central High School (Floyds Knobs, Indiana, 2015-16), he guided 10 on the women’s team on to postseason competition. “Of the 10 divers on the women's team, two had diving experience and the rest were cheerleaders and gymnasts who learned the necessary skills to compete with the top 80 divers in the state,” Dr. Procise says.

After a two-year break from diving, Dr. Procise is ready to return to the pool. “I feel incredibly energized knowing that I have another chance to coach a sport that, in my opinion, teaches sportsmanship, grace, failure and success, and self-confidence,” he says. “I am looking forward to continuing to build a relationship with some of the GPS divers I met last season during the times I was poolside. I am also eager to build a strong and competitive diving program to supplement the strong swim team that coach John Woods has maintained over the years.”

GPS Athletic Director Jay Watts says he is excited about the level of enthusiasm Coach Procise brings to the program. “We were fortunate to find someone with his expertise to maintain the high standards that we have for diving at GPS,” he says. “We look forward to seeing what he can accomplish with our high school divers next year.”

Dr. Procise played college football at the University of Saint Francis (Fort Wayne, Indiana) and ran track in high school. He joined McCallie’s faculty in August 2016 and will retain his responsibilities there in addition to coaching at GPS
