GPS's Brooklynn Smith Signs with Trevecca Nazarene

GPS senior Brooklynn Smith has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball next year at Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, Tennessee). Smith was named MVP of her Bruisers squad this year, helping GPS to a 16-win season that included victories over Notre Dame, CCS, CSAS, and state quarterfinalist Knox Catholic. The outside hitter will bring a great deal of power and experience to the Trojans, who compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) in the NCAA’s Division II.  

 

Smith’s high school career for the Bruisers included 452 kills and 151 blocks. She was also named to this fall’s Division II AA All-East Region team. When asked about Smith’s contributions to the volleyball program at GPS, Varsity Head Coach Alfie Dodd pointed out her great commitment to the sport throughout the year. “Brooklynn put in the off-season and in-season work to become one of the most complete all-round volleyball players in the Chattanooga and surrounding areas,” said Dodd. “She carried a big offensive load for us this season as well as took ownership over the net. She is a fierce competitor, and I am super proud of her performance growth.” 

 

While Smith has been a standout member of the volleyball program during her time with the Bruisers, she has also been a part of the varsity basketball program, assisted with various sports camps at GPS, and been a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also an active member of the school spirit club, the G-Force.

 

Emily Moore, head volleyball coach and associate director of athletics at Trevecca Nazarene said, “We think Brooklynn will be a tremendous asset to the Trevecca Volleyball program given her athleticism, skill, and competitiveness. I also believe she’s a great fit for our vision for ‘Christian Scholar Athlete’.  We look forward to her joining us on The Hill next fall!”
